Tour de Lopez!

Friday we loaded up the bike trailer with kids and camping gear, and caught the ferry to Lopez Island. We met up with our friends David, Jennifer and Olivia Conover at Odlin campground where they had saved us a great campsite right by the beach!
The Conovers are some new friends of ours that are super fun and active. Lots of hanging out and fun adventures. We have had a hard time finding good friends like them here. Jennifer and Olivia visit the horses 3-4 times a week. Olivia loves pony Iris. David is a regional director for the Boys and Girls Club and had been an adventure guide in the past.
David was in Seattle the day before and stopped at the REI. The basement has a permanent garage sale and he found a new dog trailer that he used to carry the camping gear. (He has an old dog that he loves as much as his daughter, but didn't have room to bring him this time)
They lent us a great puffy suit for Baer. He loved riding in the trailer and the boys were great helpers making sure he was comfortable and happy!
Mom pulled the trail-a-bike and the boys took turns while Dad pulled the trailer with Baer and one of the boys.
There were rest stops along the way with water, oranges, brownies and chocolate bars! Best bike stops I've been to.

there were several route options. We did the School Rd route. We hadn't been on our bikes in a while and we weren't strong enough to pull our boys much further. After the ride we cruised around downtown. Visited the cool little bike shop where Dad changed the gear on his fixie from 16t to 17t, a little easier for the ride home. There was a big BBQ lunch in the park. The boys loved the hot dogs and live music. The both want to be rock stars now.

After the ride we went back to the camp and loaded the camping gear(we figured 130-150lbs trailer depending on which boy was riding) and headed to the ferry dock. There were SOOOO many riders on so many different kinds of bikes. Some mountain, road, hybrid, custom weird ones and recumbent. . Mom on her road bike, Dad on his fixie and the Conovers on their matching Jamis touring bikes.
The ferry was an hour late so we had time to visit and play around the terminal. We found lots of wildlife in and near the water. Starfish, otters, weasels and eagles.
Another fun adventure here in our home, the beautiful pacific north west!
